About the park
Khaudum is 3,842 km² of dense dry woodland cut by three fossil river valleys (omiramba), unfenced on its eastern border with Botswana. In the dry season elephants gather at the waterholes in big numbers, and roan, kudu, eland, giraffe, lion, leopard, spotted hyena and wild dog are all here. There are two ways in: a 46 km sand track from the B8 between Rundu and Divundu to the northern Khaudum gate, or the D3303 gravel road from Tsumkwe to Sikereti in the south. Camp at the Xaudum campsite near the north gate or at Sikereti, and bring everything else: there are no shops, and the nearest fuel is in Rundu or Tsumkwe. Deep sand can double your fuel use, and park rules call for at least two 4x4s travelling together.
