About Campesa

One map of the campsites worth knowing across Southern and East Africa, with the national parks, park gates, fuel, food, water, top sights, picnic spots and 4x4 rental depots you plan a trip around. Built for self-drive overlanders, and now covering Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Zambia, with more countries on the way.

What you can do

How the listings come together

Listings start from OpenStreetMap and are filled in from each campsite's own website, park authority pages and other published sources, with a note of where each fact came from and when. Where something isn't confirmed, we say so rather than guess.

We do our best to make every listing as accurate as possible. That being said, due to the number of listings and the lack of information in some cases, accuracy can't be guaranteed. Please check anything critical to your trip with the campsite or park, and ask campsites to update their listing where something is missing or out of date.

Campsite operators can claim their listing to keep facilities, sites, prices and contact details up to date, or add a campsite that isn't on the map yet. Travellers can suggest an edit on any campsite.

The campfire score

Campsites are scored from one to five campfires. Facilities, value, and access and supplies are worked out from our own data; the setting and the general feel of public reviews are our judgement, written in our own words. It's Campesa's opinion, not an average of other sites' ratings.

Distances, drive times and prices

Directions and trip drive times follow the roads and tracks on our map and give a range that allows for the surface, but they exclude stops and can't know about today's conditions. The distances to the nearest fuel, food, water and gates on a campsite are straight-line, so allow more. Prices are kept in the currency the campsite charges; converted prices are approximate.

Before you go

Things change out here: gates close, fuel runs dry, roads wash away. Check with the campsite or park before you travel, and carry enough fuel and water for the unexpected.
