About the park
This small park of about 23 km² protects the Zimbabwe bank of Victoria Falls, where the Zambezi drops about 108 m over a lip 1.7 km wide into a narrow chasm. A walking path runs through the rainforest that the spray keeps alive, with ferns, palms, lianas and mahogany, stopping at a string of viewpoints that face the main curtain across the gorge, from Devil's Cataract and the Livingstone statue in the west to Danger Point and the view of the Victoria Falls Bridge in the east. It is a walk, not a game drive: baboons, vervet monkeys and warthogs are the usual company, with the odd leopard. The entrance is a short walk from Victoria Falls town and the border post, and early morning gives the softest light and the fewest people. In the high-water months after the rains the spray can soak you and hide the falls, so bring a rain jacket and protect cameras.
