About the park
Simalaha is a community conservancy of about 180,000 ha of communal land run by the Sesheke and Sekute chiefdoms, launched in 2012 with support from Peace Parks Foundation as a corridor between Chobe in Botswana and Kafue. Inside it, a wildlife sanctuary that has grown to about 400 km² has been restocked since 2013 with more than 2,000 animals of 13 species, including buffalo, giraffe, eland, sable, roan, waterbuck, red lechwe, puku and hartebeest. Since August 2020 a single operator has run a luxury tented camp with horseback safaris, so visiting means booking with them. The conservancy offices are at Mwandi Kuta.
