About the park
Zambia's Nyika National Park is a narrow strip on the western edge of the Nyika Plateau, the rest of which lies in Malawi's much larger Nyika National Park; the plateau road forms the border. It protects montane grassland and forest patches that are rare in Zambia, and from September to April the plateau is covered in wildflowers. The Zambian side is undeveloped: the old colonial rest house closed in 1998 and there is no road access except via Malawi. In practice you visit it as part of a trip to Malawi's Nyika, where the accommodation and campsites are.
