About the park
Nsefu is the northern part of South Luangwa National Park and one of the first areas of the Luangwa Valley to be set aside for wildlife. It packs riverine forest, ebony groves, mopane woodland and seasonal floodplain into a fairly small area, with natural hot springs as a curiosity. Surveys here have found some of the highest leopard densities recorded in southern Africa, alongside lion, spotted hyena and wild dog. The land lies in the Mwanya Chiefdom, whose traditional custodianship still shapes how it is used. Most visitors see it from the camps inside the sector on guided drives and walks; park fees are those of South Luangwa.
