About the park
Dinaka is a private, fenced reserve of about 400 km² on the northern border of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, open only to guests of its small tented camp. The country is classic Kalahari: open grassland and scrub, with a permanent waterhole in front of camp that pulls in game and birds as the bush dries out. Because the reserve is fenced, game numbers stay steadier than in the open Central Kalahari, with gemsbok, springbok, eland and giraffe, and black-maned lion, cheetah, leopard and brown hyena among the predators. Guests fly in from Maun (about 35 minutes) and spend their days on day and night game drives, guided walks, sessions in sunken and photographic hides, and walks with San guides. It suits people who want the Kalahari's quiet without camping, with guided walks and night drives included. The catch is the price, and the fact that big game densities are not high.
