About the park
Chewore covers 3,390 km² of rugged mountains, valleys and sand rivers in the Zambezi valley east of Mana Pools, from the Mupata Gorge south to the Angwa River, and is part of the Mana Pools, Sapi and Chewore World Heritage Site. The interior is a licensed hunting area, while the Zambezi frontage is used for photographic safaris and fishing; unlike Mana Pools, motorboats are allowed, and the 35 km Mupata Gorge is known for tigerfish and bream. Almost all of Zimbabwe's large species occur except giraffe, wildebeest and black rhino, and over 400 bird species have been recorded. Roads and settlements are few, it is a tsetse and malaria zone, and access is as for Mana Pools, so visitors must be fully self-sufficient. The area closes from December to April.
