The best-placed campsite for exploring Victoria Falls on foot, under big shade trees with a large pool. It is a busy town camp rather than a quiet bush site.
This is the Victoria Falls Rest Camp, the long-running budget camp in the middle of town, where tents, rooftop tents and overland trucks spread across lawns under large old trees. It is the classic base for doing Victoria Falls on foot: the rainforest entrance is 1.5 km away, the bridge about 2 km, and the town's restaurants, banks and activity offices are a short stroll. Afternoons tend to end by the big pool, with the thatched restaurant and bar beside it, and the camp staff will book rafting, flights and sunset cruises. At certain times of year elephants and hippos graze beyond the perimeter fence after dark. It is busy and sociable rather than secluded, and full payment is needed to secure a booking.
