A remote ZimParks camp on a dam in the granite hills of eastern Matobo, chosen mainly as the start of the walk to Inanke Cave. Quieter and harder to reach than Maleme, it rewards campers who come fully equipped.
Toghwana Dam lies in the quiet eastern part of Matobo, a long gravel drive from the Maleme headquarters, with the camp on the shore of a dam ringed by the park's bare granite hills. Its draw is the path that leaves from the dam wall: about seven kilometres and three hours through the koppies to Inanke Cave, whose paintings are the most extensive in the park, passing an Iron Age furnace on the way; a ZimParks guide is advised the first time. Other days go on fishing, or boating with park permission, and the hills around are leopard and black eagle country. The camp is about 29 km from World's View on rough gravel, and the track can need a 4x4 in the rains. It suits self-sufficient campers after the remote side of the park; stock up in Bulawayo.

Gravel park roads; parts of Matobo need a high-clearance 4WD and the road to Toghwana Dam may need four-wheel drive in the rainy season.
From Bulawayo take Matopos Road south into Matobo National Park. From World's View follow the road south; after about 4 km keep on the gravel road south past the Pomongwe and Nswatugi Cave turn-off, turn left at the store at about 11 km, ignore the left turn at 16.5 km and continue east past another campsite at 21 km to reach Toghwana Dam at about 29 km. An alternative approach from Bulawayo runs via Fort Usher and the Gulati Communal Area.
