Matusadona's main campsite, on the Tashinga peninsula at park headquarters, with sunrise and sunset both over Lake Kariba.
Tashinga is Matusadona's headquarters campsite on a shady peninsula, with Lake Kariba on both the sunrise and sunset side. Wildlife moves freely through the unfenced pitches, and the hard journey in keeps it quiet.
Tashinga is the park's only serviced campsite, spread under big shade trees on a peninsula by the Ume River mouth, so the sun rises and sets over Lake Kariba from the same spot. Nothing is fenced: elephant, impala and bushbuck wander between the pitches and a leopard is resident, so evenings by the fire come with wildlife close by. Park headquarters and reception are a short walk away, and guided drives, walks, boat trips and fishing on the Ume can be booked there. Getting in is the catch: about three hours of 4x4 tracks from Chifudzi gate, a short drive from the Ume ferry landing, or an hour by speedboat from Kariba, weather permitting, so plan on at least two nights.

Reviews are campers' own opinions, not Campesa's. They don't change the campfire score.
Park roads are rough and a 4x4 is recommended; driving is permitted only from sunrise to sunset.
By road: enter at Chifudzi gate and allow about three hours of park tracks to Tashinga (roughly ten hours' drive from Harare in all); or take the Ume ferry and drive 15 minutes from the drop-off. By boat: about an hour's speedboat crossing from Kariba, weather permitting.
