A sociable backpackers' lodge in a Harare suburb that has long taken campers in its garden. It is a practical city stop for overlanders and budget travellers rather than a destination in itself.
Small World is one of Harare's longest-running budget stops for independent travellers: a garden property on Ridge Road in Avondale, a few kilometres north of the city centre, where campers share the grounds with dorm and room guests. Evenings are social, with travellers gathering around the pool and bar, and the leafy suburb is quiet by city standards. Avondale shopping centre and its flea market are about ten to fifteen minutes' walk away, which makes it a handy base for shopping and errands before heading out to the parks, and the drive in is on city tar. The camping area is small, taking around twenty people, so it suits a night or two in town rather than a longer stay; phone ahead to check there is space.
