Bush camp
Cliff-edge bush camp on the Zambezi Escarpment, its lapa looking straight down the Mucheni Gorge to the valley floor.
Park conservation fees are extra, paid at the gate.
Mucheni View is Chizarira's showpiece camp, perched on the escarpment edge with the gorge and Zambezi Valley spread below. It suits self-sufficient 4x4 campers who want a wild, quiet night close to park headquarters.
Mucheni View sits on the very lip of the Zambezi Escarpment where the Mucheni River has cut a sheer-sided gorge, and the thatched lapa looks out over the drop with only a light wire fence between camp and cliff. Afternoons are for watching raptors ride the thermals along the gorge walls, Verreaux's eagles among them, while the light fades over the Zambezi Valley far below; the sun itself sets behind the escarpment. It is one of the two Mucheni camps a few kilometres from park headquarters at Manzituba, the easiest to reach in a park that is 4x4 country throughout. The site is small, the drop is real and the toilet stands close to the edge, so watch children closely, and book ahead for holiday periods.

All access is on rough dirt roads with rocks and roots; a 4x4 is needed, and roads become unreliable in the rains (November to April).
From the Binga–Siabuwa (Binga–Karoi) gravel road, turn off at the Chizarira National Park sign about 47 km east of the Binga turnoff, just after crossing the Mucheni River, then follow 20 km of dirt road up and over the escarpment to park headquarters at Manzituba. From Gokwe, take the tar road via Chitekete for about 120 km to the T-junction, then the dirt road towards Binga via Siabuwa to the same turnoff. Report to headquarters on arrival.
