The camp sits where the road from Centenary climbs through the Mavuradonha range, a council-protected wilderness of granite hills, miombo woodland and spring-fed streams on the lip of the Zambezi Escarpment. Days are spent on foot: a half-day climb to Eagles Crag above the Musengezi River, picnics and swims in the pools below Sohwe Falls, and guided heritage walks tied to the Mutapa founder Nyatsimba Mutota. Game is thin compared with the valley below, but zebra, kudu and eland live in the hills, elephant and lion pass through now and then, and the cliffs hold a notable variety of eagles. Evenings centre on the camp bonfire, sometimes with dancing from the neighbouring community. Everything is basic, with no mains power, so bring supplies and arrange guided walks with the camp.
