A raised deck in an old leadwood tree above a game-drawing pan, about as wild a night as the park offers. It suits self-sufficient parties who are happy to sleep in the open.
Malugwe is a sleep-out rather than a campsite: an open 3 by 6 metre wooden deck built about three metres up in an ancient leadwood tree, deep in the centre of the park far from the river camps. It looks over a wetland pan that holds water for much of the year and draws game in to drink, so evenings are spent watching the pan from above and nights are spent under the open sky with the bush sounds all around. Only one party of up to six uses it at a time. It is a long drive from either Chipinda Pools or Mabalauta on remote tracks, so come self-sufficient in a 4x4. The deck has no roof, and the pan can dry out late in the dry season.
