Park conservation fees are extra, paid at the gate.
The park's main campsite, on the shore of Maleme Dam in classic Matobo granite country with strong birding and easy tar access. Upkeep of the camp is uneven, so it suits self-sufficient campers.
This is the main camping ground of Matobo National Park, spread along the eastern shore of Maleme Dam by the park headquarters, with whaleback granite domes and stacked boulders rising all round the water. Some pitches sit right at the water's edge on grass under trees, and evenings tend to centre on the campfire while the boulders turn gold at sunset; winter nights are cold. Birders rate it highly, with Verreaux's eagles, fish eagles and augur buzzards working the ridges and the dam, and campers often find it quiet despite Bulawayo being about an hour away. A narrow tar road runs all the way to the camp, and the rock art at Pomongwe and Nswatugi caves and the rhino area of the game park are short drives away. Ablutions are basic and unevenly maintained, so come largely self-sufficient.

Reviews are campers' own opinions, not Campesa's. They don't change the campfire score.
Tarred all the way to Maleme; other park roads are gravel and mostly fine for ordinary cars, but some areas need a high-clearance 4x4, especially after rain.
From central Bulawayo follow Robert Mugabe Way, which becomes the Matopos Road, about 30 km south to the park boundary, then a single-lane tar road to Maleme Dam and the rest camp. The campsite is on the eastern shore of the dam, next to the park headquarters.
