Lomagundi Lakeside is an old fishing-club holiday enclave on the Kariba shore, with a shady lawn campsite, its own harbour and a thatched bar. It is an easy, sociable town base for anglers and families, with hippos on the grass after dark.
Lomagundi Lakeside began as holiday cottages built by Zimbabwe's fishing clubs on the Kariba shore, and it still feels like a members' holiday enclave, with tall trees over mown lawns and the sun setting behind the Matusadona hills across the water. The campsite sits among the chalets, a short walk from the harbour and the thatched Dome bar, which serves simple meals such as fish and chips. After dark, hippos leave the lake to graze the lawns, so walk carefully with a torch. It is down a short dirt lane off the tar in Kariba town, easy for any car or caravan, and makes a good base for fishing charters, boat cruises and day trips to Matusadona.

Tar to Kariba, then about 1 km of dirt road; the escarpment descent from Makuti is steep and winding, so take it slowly, especially after rain.
From Harare (about 370 km, 5 hours) drive via Chinhoyi to Makuti and turn left down the escarpment to Kariba. Pass the airport and township, turn left at the Cutty Sark and Tamarind signs, follow the tar for about 1 km, turn left onto the Power Line dirt road and after another 1 km turn right at the Lomagundi Lakeside sign.
