Bush camp
Riverside bush camp on the upper Luzulukulu River with Tonga-style raised thatch shelters, about 6 km from Chizarira headquarters.
Park conservation fees are extra, paid at the gate.
Kaswiswi 1 is a rustic riverside camp south of Chizarira headquarters, notable for its Tonga-style raised shelters and riverine birding. It suits fully self-sufficient campers who do not mind basic, sometimes neglected, facilities.
Kaswiswi 1 is the more built-up of two camps at the meeting of the Kaswiswi stream and the Luzulukulu (Rwizilukulu) River, south of park headquarters. Its pole-and-thatch shelters are modelled on the ngazi, the raised field huts Tonga farmers sleep in to guard their crops, and the riverine woodland around camp is good birding country. How it feels depends on the season: after the rains the channel beside camp runs, while by the late dry season it can be a dry, burnt-over spot. There is no piped water, so arrive with everything you need, and expect the ablutions to be in poor repair. It is a short drive from Manzituba on rough park tracks that need a 4x4.

All access is on rough dirt roads with rocks and roots; a 4x4 is needed, and roads become unreliable in the rains (November to April).
From the Binga–Siabuwa (Binga–Karoi) gravel road, turn off at the Chizarira National Park sign about 47 km east of the Binga turnoff, just after crossing the Mucheni River, then follow 20 km of dirt road up and over the escarpment to park headquarters at Manzituba. From Gokwe, take the tar road via Chitekete for about 120 km to the T-junction, then the dirt road towards Binga via Siabuwa to the same turnoff. Report to headquarters on arrival.
