A family-run fishing lodge on Lake Manyame where campers share the lawns with lodge guests and the ZimParks fishing office is on site. Good for anglers and as a stopover north-west of Harare.
Hideaway is a privately run lodge and fishing camp on the northern shore of Lake Manyame, the dam below Lake Chivero, and campers pitch on the lawns around its thatched lodges with the water in view. Bass fishing is the main reason people come: the ZimParks fishing office sits on the property, and the lodge hires out a pontoon boat for fishing and sunset trips. Canoeing, guided bike rides and birding along the shore fill the rest of the day. It lies on Porta Road near Darwendale, less than an hour from Harare, and also works as a stopover on the way to Kariba and Mana Pools. Groups, weddings and school camps use it too, so call ahead to check it is not booked out.
