Park conservation fees are extra, paid at the gate.
A functional roadhead camp whose value lies in the mountains it opens onto, used as the night before or after the walk to the Bundi valley. Remote gravel access, cold winter nights and security on the paths are the trade-offs.
Mutekeswane is where the road ends and Chimanimani National Park begins: a car park, ranger post and the park's one serviced campsite at the foot of the quartzite massif. Most campers spend a night here before or after walking up to the mountain hut on the Bundi River, about two to three hours of steady climbing, and a game scout is usually on hand to advise on routes higher up. Everything beyond is on foot, so pack for the hills before you leave the car. The base camp is about 19 km of gravel from Chimanimani village, where entry is paid at the parks office; a 4x4 is the safer choice in the rains. Winter nights can fall below freezing, summer storms bring flash floods, and illegal gold panners use the paths, so tell the staff your plans and keep gear close.
