- High clearance

A riverside site whose open plain brings grazing herds into view every evening. Thinly documented, so it suits campers happy to confirm details with ZimParks.
About
Chessa looks over a small side channel of the Zambezi, with an open grass plain of about half a kilometre between camp and the main river. That plain is the draw: in the evenings buffalo, waterbuck and elephant come out to graze and hippos leave the water, all in view from camp. It is one of the exclusive riverside sites taken by a single party, and canoe safaris paddling the Zambezi also overnight here. Expect a basic, unfenced bush site; bring all water and supplies and confirm the booking with ZimParks well ahead.

Getting there
All roads in the park are gravel or tracks on clay that turns slippery after rain; a high-clearance 4x4 is strongly advised. No fuel inside the park, so fill up before the escarpment. The park closes to most traffic in the rains.
Collect the entry permit at the ZimParks Marongora office on the A1 Harare–Chirundu road, show it at Chimutsi Gate and sign in again at Nyakasikana Gate, then follow the gravel road down to the Zambezi floodplain.
