Camping at Gwango puts you on a private estate of teak forest whose boundary is the railway line that also marks the edge of Hwange National Park, about a kilometre from the Main Camp entrance. The resort's open-sided restaurant looks onto a waterhole where elephants of the local Presidential Herd often come to drink, so an evening can start watching them before you head back to your own fire. Staying on the estate also opens up estate game drives, including a night elephant-tracking drive, without paying park fees. It is reached on tar from the Victoria Falls–Bulawayo road with no need for a 4x4, and it is open all year. The camping rate is not published, so ask when booking, and check in at the front office on arrival.

Leave the Bulawayo–Victoria Falls road at the 264.5 km peg and follow the 15 km tar road towards Hwange Main Camp; just before the park entrance turn right at the large stone 'Gwango' sign, then left to the front office.
