A no-frills government campsite whose whole point is the setting: you sleep inside the Great Zimbabwe estate and have the ruins at dawn and dusk. Facilities are basic and hot water unreliable.
Run by National Museums and Monuments, this simple campsite lies inside the Great Zimbabwe estate, past the main gate and information centre beside the NMMZ chalets and dormitories. Sleeping here puts you among the medieval stone walls when the gates open: climb to the Hill Complex in cool morning light and return to the Great Enclosure late in the day, on an entry ticket campers can reuse over their stay. Once the day visitors leave the estate turns quiet apart from birdsong and the vervet monkeys, which raid any tent or hut left open. The monument is about 27 km south-east of Masvingo off the Beitbridge road; there is no shop, so bring food from town or eat at the nearby hotel, and expect basic ablutions with unreliable hot water.

Tar from Masvingo, then a good dirt road passable for most vehicles to the monument car park.
From Masvingo take the A4 towards Beitbridge and turn left at the Great Zimbabwe signs; the monument is about 25-27 km south-east of town, south of Lake Mutirikwi. Pay at the ticket office at the entrance, then continue past the information centre to the campsite beside the NMMZ chalets and dormitories. Combis from Masvingo drop at a turn-off about 2 km from the gate.
