Self-catering camping in a private conservancy on Hwange's south-eastern edge, with sites facing a vlei and waterhole.
Self-catering camping in a private conservancy on Hwange's border, with pitches facing a waterhole and lions heard at night. Wild and uncrowded, but it needs a capable 4x4.
Camp Silwane lies in Silwane Conservancy, former hunting land on the south-eastern border of Hwange National Park that is now run for conservation, so you camp in wild Hwange country without park crowds or park fees. Acacia Grove's sites face a vlei and a large waterhole, and game moves past in front of the tents from dawn to dusk; Hammerkop is a more private spot in the Somadada vlei among grassland and shady groves, suited to a family or small group; Somadada Platform is a raised deck in a leadwood tree overlooking a pan. Lions are often heard roaring at night, and the camp is unfenced. Getting there needs a 4x4 with good clearance, either through the national park or from the Gwaai side, using the camp's downloadable maps. Bring all food and drink; game drives can be arranged.
