A small, independent camp on the Luangwa in the uncrowded Nsefu area, with a handful of shaded pitches looking over the river. Its story, guiding and village links give it more character than the busy Mfuwe-bridge camps.
About
Zikomo is an independent, family-run camp on the Luangwa in the quiet Nsefu area north of Mfuwe, built on land granted by Senior Chief Nsefu after a five-year fight to turn part of a hunting block into a photographic safari camp. The few pitches lie under mature trees a short walk from the lodge, each with a thatched shade umbrella looking out over the broad sandy riverbed, and hippos are heard through the night. Campers can join the lodge's drives and walks, where guides use red filters on night drives so predators are not dazzled, or visit a Nsefu village. It is far quieter than the busy stretch by the Mfuwe bridge, but pitches are limited and camping rates are given only on request, so book ahead.
