Campsite
Long-running Luangwa riverbank camp near South Luangwa's main gate, where lion tracks and elephants turn up among the tents.
A long-established riverbank camp near South Luangwa's main gate where big game regularly passes through the tents. It is busy and sociable in season, with overland groups as well as independent campers.
Wildlife Camp has been a fixture of the Mfuwe area since 1992 and is now under new ownership, on the Luangwa a short drive downstream of the main bridge into South Luangwa. The campsite lies away from the lodge on the riverbank, with grass, shade trees and thatched shelters, and the riverfront pitches cost a little more. Animals move through freely: lion tracks appear beside tents in the morning, elephants leave signs on the path to the bar, and a resident leopard is often heard at night though rarely seen. Overland companies use it as well as independent campers, so it can be lively in season. The tar road from Chipata takes two to three hours; stock up there, as Mfuwe has only basic shops and its fuel station sometimes runs dry.

From Chipata take the tar road about 128 km to Mfuwe (2-3 hours). At the T-junction near the ZESCO offices turn right towards the park (left goes to the airport) and follow the yellow Wildlife Camp signs.
