Long-running farm campsite under big indigenous trees 11 km north of Monze, a classic overnight stop between Lusaka and Livingstone.
An old farm campsite with a garden feel, big trees and thatched shelters, reached by a short drive off the main road south. It works best as a calm overnight stop on the Lusaka to Livingstone run, with farm walks and Lochinvar nearby for a longer stay.
The Moorings sits on a working farm settled in 1920, and the camping ground has the feel of an old farm garden: wide lawns under mature indigenous trees, with open bush beyond and plenty of birds. Pitches are grouped around a few open-sided thatched shelters, each with its own braai, so evenings centre on the fire under the thatch. It is reached by a 2 km farm drive off the Lusaka to Livingstone road, which keeps it quiet despite being so close to the highway. Most people use it to break the long drive south or north, but the farm walks and Lochinvar National Park, about 60 km away, give a reason to stay a second night. Day visitors are also welcome to picnic and braai on the lawns, so the grounds are not always campers' alone.
