A small town campsite in Mongu run by a local church and community project, shaded by mango and cashew trees above the Barotse floodplain. A practical stop on the way to Liuwa Plain or Sioma.
About
Mutoya is Mongu's town campsite, set up by The Zambia Project, a church and community organisation based in the town, on land granted by the Litunga, the Lozi king. It takes its name from a riverine tree and sits just off the Mongu–Senanga road on the southern edge of town, where old mango and cashew trees shade green lawns on the rise above the wide Barotse floodplain of the Zambezi. It is a practical overnight for travellers heading west to Kalabo and Liuwa Plain or south towards Senanga and Sioma, with Mongu's shops and fuel a few minutes away. Jewellery from the Hope Art project is sold on site to support the organisation's children's village. Call ahead to confirm rates and that someone is there to receive you.
