A small, remote lodge on the Kafue with a separate riverside campsite and viewing deck, across the river from Kafue National Park. Wildlife, birding and fishing are the draw; campers must be fully self-sufficient.
Mu-Fungata is a small lodge named after the puku, the russet antelope of the Kafue floodplains, on an isolated stretch of the Kafue River on the Game Management Area side, across the water from Kafue National Park. Campers stay at a separate site a little downriver from the cottages, where a two-storey deck looks over a reach of river busy with hippos and crocodiles through the day. Elephant, kudu, puku, hartebeest and lion move through the surrounding bush, and the lodge runs boat trips, guided walks, game drives, fishing for bream, pike and catfish, and visits to the nearby village. It is a long drive from Lusaka through Mumbwa, so arrive fully stocked, bring all your own camping gear, and phone ahead for directions and rates.
