A homely garden campsite and B&B on Lusaka's south-west edge, run by a Dutch couple who are campers themselves. Valued for advice, secure vehicle storage and a pool more than for scenery.
Lukasa grew out of a family home: Harry built the house on the south-western edge of Lusaka, and he and Geke, both Dutch-born and in Zambia since the 1990s and 2000s, began taking in travellers when friends insisted on paying for a room. Campers pitch under trees in an evergreen garden, with a 12.5 m pool, boules and volleyball for slow afternoons, and it feels more like staying with friends than at a camp. Being campers themselves, the hosts are a good source of advice on mechanics, carnets, immigration and route planning, and they offer secure parking for vehicles left while you fly home. Home-cooked dinners can be arranged in advance. The camp is off Oriental Quarries Road in Makeni Konga, so expect some suburban driving to reach it.
