About
Lake Waka Waka, known locally as Chibakabaka, is a small spring-fed lake in miombo woodland with rocky hills rising behind it, and its clear water is free of crocodiles. That makes it a rare place in this part of Zambia for a swim after a dusty day. The local community runs a simple campsite on the shore, and its caretaker can arrange village visits, fishing and walks into the hills, where roan, sable and sitatunga live but are seldom seen. Most people treat it as a quiet overnight stop on the back road between Kasanka National Park and the Bangweulu Wetlands, about an hour from Kasanka. Facilities are minimal, so bring water, food and everything else you need, and pay the small camping fee to the attendant.
