A long-running lodge campsite with a commanding view of two great rivers meeting and easy access to boat-based safaris. It is a comfortable, organised base rather than a wild bush camp.
Kiambi has looked out over the meeting of the Zambezi and Kafue rivers since 1999, perched high on the edge of the Zambezi bank in the Chiawa Game Management Area, 22 km downriver of Chirundu and about 65 km upstream of Lower Zambezi National Park. It is the gentle first taste of the valley: elephant, buffalo, hippo and crocodile are around all year, sunrises and sunsets play out across a wide sweep of water, and night skies are dark. Campers have their own grassy area apart from the chalets and can join the lodge's sunset cruises, tiger-fishing trips, canoe safaris and full-day boat-and-drive outings into the park, where lion and hyena are regular. It is roughly three and a half hours by road from Lusaka. Activities are charged separately and the park excursions are long, early days.
