About
Katoyana is the central one of Liuwa's five community campgrounds, set in shade at the edge of a woodland where it meets the open Nundu plain. Its draw is the predators: hyena dens lie close by, and lion and cheetah are seen often on the pans and grassland of the park's eastern side, which is easy to reach from here. Days are spent self-driving between pans, palm islands and plains thick with birds, then returning to a quiet camp under the trees for the night. It is about two and a half hours from Kalabo on sandy park tracks that need a high-clearance 4x4. Come self-sufficient, with your water and firewood bought in Kalabo, and keep children close in this predator-rich park.
