Campsite
Zambia's first backpacker hostel (1996), in central Livingstone, with a small garden camping lawn and a busy travel desk.
A long-running, owner-run backpacker hostel in central Livingstone where campers pitch on a garden lawn and share the pool, bar and travel desk. It is the place to meet other travellers and organise the Falls, not to get away from town.
Jollyboys opened in 1996 as the country's first hostel and is still owner-run, and its draw for campers is the company: a pool, a bar and a sunken lounging pit where travellers swap plans for the Falls, rafting and safaris. Tents go on a small walled lawn among palms and garden beds, within the same gated compound as the dorms, so nights are social rather than wild. The travel desk is known for current advice, and weekly events such as a braai night, movie night and a free town walk make it easy to meet people. It is in the middle of Livingstone on Kanyanta Road, within walking distance of grocery shops, with a free daily shuttle to the Falls. Camping is first come, first served on a small garden lawn, so it suits travellers with a tent rather than big rigs.
