Bush camp
Unserviced wild camping by Chunga Lagoon in Lochinvar National Park, among Kafue lechwe herds and floodplain waterbirds.
The only overnight option inside Lochinvar: a bare, unserviced spot by Chunga Lagoon where lechwe graze and the birding is superb. Strictly for self-sufficient campers willing to report to the rangers.
Lochinvar protects the southern Kafue Flats, and with the park's old farmhouse lodge long closed, camping with your own gear near Chunga Lagoon is the only way to spend the night inside it. Herds of Kafue lechwe, an antelope found almost nowhere else, graze the shallows, and the lagoon edge is excellent for birds: ibis, open-billed storks, pygmy-geese and, in the wet season, great gatherings of waterbirds. Big game is still scarce as the park recovers, so this is a place for quiet floodplain evenings rather than predator sightings. The approach is a long, dusty gravel drive from Monze past a working gypsum mine. There are no facilities at all, so bring water, fuel and toilet arrangements, and check in with the park staff at Chunga.

Reviews are campers' own opinions, not Campesa's. They don't change the campfire score.
Gravel road from Monze, dusty in the dry season; tracks near the lagoon become difficult in the rains (December onwards).
From Monze on the Lusaka-Livingstone road, about 40 km of gravel through grassland and miombo to the park gate, then on to Chunga Lagoon past the gypsum mine.
