Chimwemwe is a town lodge on Boma Road in Petauke, at the turn-off from the Great East Road, with chalets, gardens and a camping area for overlanders. Its value is position: Petauke lies about 400 km east of Lusaka, and the lodge has been a regular place since 2007 to break the long drive to Chipata, Malawi or South Luangwa. The restaurant saves cooking after a day on the road, and fuel and shops in town are close by. Treat it as a practical overnight stop rather than somewhere to linger, and expect the bustle of a town lodge rather than bush quiet.
