About
Vogelfederberg is a long, rounded granite inselberg that rises straight out of the Namib gravel plains, and the few pitches sit in its lee, against boulders and under rock overhangs. Big aloes grow from its cracks, and an easy scramble onto the dome gives sunset views over empty desert in every direction, with very dark skies after nightfall; a large north-facing cave on the hill is worth seeking out. Travellers value the solitude when they have the rock to themselves. It is an easy first or last night out of Walvis Bay, about 50 km away on the gravel C14, and caravans manage the short turn-off. Nobody is on site, so bring water and firewood, and buy the park permit in town beforehand.
