A three-storey tree house built round a huge ana tree beside a farm dam, a short drive north of Windhoek. A memorable, off-grid group stay that also serves hikers on the Khomas Hochland trail.
About
The camp is built into and around a massive ana tree in old camelthorn woodland on Monte Christo, a family-run game farm in the hills north of Windhoek. Its first-floor deck and lookout face a farm dam where waterbirds gather and antelope and warthog come to drink, and it doubles as an overnight stop on the multi-day Khomas Hochland Hiking Trail. There is no electricity, so nights run on headlamps and the braai fire, with up to twelve people sleeping on the decks or in tents pitched below. The farm is an easy drive from Windhoek along the B1 and a short stretch of gravel and new tar from the Brakwater turn-off. Bring your own bedding, food and torches, and arrange the stay with the owners in advance.

Getting there
About 30 km north of Windhoek. Take the B1 towards Okahandja and turn off onto the D1474 at Brakwater; turn left at the junction, follow the gravel for about 500 m, then turn right onto the new tar road and continue about 2 km to the Farm Monte Christo gate, then follow the farm's signs. The owners warn that map-app coordinates lead to a wrong turn-off.
