A practical guest house camp in Uis that works as a halfway night between the coast and Etosha. Its draw is the location, close to the Brandberg rock art and the old tin mine, rather than the setting itself.
This is a town stop rather than a bush camp: a dozen pitches under shade trees in the grounds of a thatched guest house in Uis, a former tin-mining settlement on the main route between the coast and the interior. It suits travellers splitting the drive between the coast and Etosha, and those using Uis as a base for the White Lady rock painting at the Brandberg, about 35 km away. The old mine workings and the flooded pit on the edge of town are worth an afternoon, ideally with a 4x4. Evenings are quiet; campers cook for themselves, and breakfast at the guest house lapa can be booked on arrival. An ordinary sedan can reach the camp, and the town has fuel and a small supermarket.
