Not a campsite: Palmenkop is a small tented camp on Palmenhorst Farm, once a vegetable farm and family home in the Swakop River valley, where five furnished two-bed tents and one more secluded luxury tent sit below the bare, wrinkled hills of the Moon Valley. Days are for walking into those hills, by daylight or under a full moon, or for finding the musical rocks the owners can point you to, while children can ride Pippo, the resident donkey. Evenings centre on the fireplace beside each tent and the desert silence. The farm lies about 60 km from Swakopmund, reached from the Windhoek road or along the dry riverbed from Goanikontes; ask the owners about the route, and whether you may pitch your own tent, before setting out.

The last stretch runs down into the Swakop River valley; the route along the riverbed from Goanikontes is only usable when the river is dry.
On Palmenhorst Farm in the Swakop River valley, about 60 km inland from Swakopmund. Either leave the B2 Swakopmund-Windhoek road and drive down into the river valley, or, when the riverbed is dry, take the Welwitschia road to Goanikontes Oasis and continue about 10 km east along the river. Ask the camp for exact directions.
