A small, basic campground beside the Springbokwasser gate on the eastern entrance to Skeleton Coast National Park. It mainly serves travellers who arrive after the 15:00 cut-off for transit permits and need a bed for the night.
About
This is a gate camp rather than a destination: a few pitches on open ground beside the Springbokwasser entrance to Skeleton Coast National Park, on the eastern side where the red hills and the green-tinged bed of the Springbok River give way to the bare gravel plains that run to the sea. Its value is timing. The gate stops issuing transit permits at 15:00, so drivers coming west along the C39 in the afternoon stop here and go through in the morning. There is little shade and afternoons can be very hot, so most people stay a single night. Facilities are basic; stock up on fuel and supplies before leaving Palmwag or Khorixas.
