A high, scenic camp on one of Namibia's most dramatic passes, looking out over the desert towards Sossusvlei. It suits self-sufficient travellers who want views and quiet over power and frills.
About
Set halfway down the Spreetshoogte Pass on the D1275, the camp looks out across the Namib plains and the Naukluft, with big sunsets and sunrises from the pitches. It is run by nearby Barkhan Dune Retreat and makes a scenic base for Sossusvlei, Sesriem and the Naukluft. There is no electricity at the sites, so come self-sufficient. In windy months, or for groups over 15, campers can use a sheltered alternative site at the Barkhan farmhouse with sandy stands under trees and a boma. Fill up with fuel beforehand: the nearest pump is at Solitaire.

Getting there
Gravel D1275 over the pass; reachable by 2WD and 4WD. Nearest fuel at Solitaire.
On the D1275, about halfway down the Spreetshoogte Pass below the viewpoint. From Windhoek take the B1 south past Rehoboth, the C24 towards Klein Aub, then the D1261 and D1275 over the pass. From Solitaire, take the C14 and turn onto the D1275.
