Camping at a women's craft cooperative on the shore of Goreangab Dam in Katutura, with artisan workshops and a terrace restaurant.
- 4.2
- N$150 pp/night
A rustic campsite inside a long-running women's craft enterprise beside Goreangab Dam, where guests can join workshops and tours. Worthwhile for travellers who want a Windhoek stay with a purpose, though it is basic and tricky to find.
About
Penduka, meaning 'wake up', is a social enterprise founded in 1992 where women from marginalised communities earn a living from embroidery, batik and jewellery, and its village on Goreangab Dam doubles as a guesthouse. Campers pitch in one of two rustic areas under shade trees, a short walk from the workshops and the restaurant terrace that looks over the water. Days can fill with a free walk through the workshops, a batik or jewellery class with the artisans, a pedal boat on the dam or a guided outing into Katutura, and the money you spend goes back into the project. It lies on Windhoek's north-western edge, reached through the Katutura suburbs, and first-timers often find it hard to locate, so get directions when you book. Expect mosquitoes near the water; tents and bedding can be hired if you travel light.
