Campsite
Herero-run camp among granite boulders north of Uis, next to a small Himba village the owner shows guests around.
A small owner-run camp among boulders north of Uis whose draw is the neighbouring Himba village and the owner's guided visits. A convenient stop on the C35 between Uis and Twyfelfontein, simple rather than polished.
Ozohere is Otjiherero for the rock dassie, and the pitches are tucked among the boulders of a rocky outcrop off the C35, with the sandy Ugab riverbed a walk away. What sets it apart is the small Himba village beside the camp: the owner, Vinice, takes guests through it and interprets as she goes, and the paid visit helps support the families there. Visitors tend to speak warmly of her welcome, of quiet nights despite the nearby road and of sunsets over the rocks, while noting that the ablutions are basic. It sits on the main gravel route between Uis and Twyfelfontein, so any car can reach it, and it works as a lunch stop as well as an overnight. Bring cash, book meals ahead, and expect the village fee to be extra.
