A small, owner-run river camp where every pitch looks straight onto the Okavango from its own deck. Its pull is the river itself: fishing, birding and sundowners, a long way from the nearest town.
About
Okacuito sits on the south bank of the Okavango, a few kilometres downstream of where the Cuito joins it from Angola, and it is built around the river: each pitch runs down to its own thatched deck and kitchen area above the water. Visitors spend evenings on the deck watching the sun go down over the river, with hippos often in view below. The owner is a keen angler, and boat trips for tigerfish, birding and sunset cruises leave from camp, turning up crocodiles, hippos and plenty of birds. It lies off the B8 between Rundu (125 km) and Divundu (84 km), down about 2.5 km of gravel best tackled in a high-clearance vehicle. Shop in Divundu or Rundu first, take malaria precautions and book ahead, as fishing groups fill the camp.
