A small, quiet campground tucked into the Aus Mountains with real wilderness feel only minutes from the main road. It is a natural base for the wild horses, Kolmanskop and the hiking trails that start in the valley.
About
Gondwana's Desert Horse Campsite lies in a small rocky hollow of the Aus Mountains, about 2 km beyond the Desert Horse Inn and just west of Aus on the tarred B4. Each of the ten sites sits under an old camelthorn tree with a windbreak, and some trees carry sociable weaver nests. Hiking and mountain-bike trails start from the valley, including one to a sunset lookout, and the wild horses at Garub and the ghost town of Kolmanskop are easy day trips. There is no power at the sites; devices charge at the Inn.
