A long-running community camp in the Khowarib Schlucht, valued for its gorge and mountain views and its link to local Himba and Damara villages. It is simple and hard to contact ahead, so it suits self-sufficient travellers who arrive and pay on site.
One of the region's older community campsites, opened in 1992 and run by the Anabeb Conservancy, with sites among palms near the Hoanib stream and views of desert mountains and the Khowarib gorge. Local guides take visitors to Himba and Damara villages and on walks into the gorge. It is simple and remote, with fuel about 30 km away, and the camp often cannot be reached in advance, so most travellers arrive and arrange a site on the spot.
