A remote, unequipped campsite on the Palmwag Concession's Western Touring Route, valued for its open wilderness and the wildlife drawn to a nearby waterhole. It suits fully self-sufficient 4x4 travellers.
Kai-Ais is the first marked campsite on the Western Touring Route through the Palmwag Concession, some 35 km west of Palmwag Lodge in open basalt wilderness with a single tree for shade. A natural waterhole lies nearby, and the concession is home to black rhino, desert elephant, lion and giraffe, so give animals at the water plenty of space. There are no facilities, so arrive with all water and firewood, and take rubbish away.

The concession is open to 4x4 vehicles only; stay on the touring route, no motorcycles or quad bikes, and obey 'no entry' signs.
On the Palmwag Concession Western Touring Route, about 35 km west of Palmwag Lodge (marked C-3 on the concession map); collect the permit and map at Palmwag Lodge or the Twee Palms or Aub gate.
