Community camp
Community-run camp on the Kunene River beside Ruacana Falls, with local guides for falls walks, birding and Himba visits.
A simple community-run camp whose appeal is the river, the falls and local guides rather than comforts. Online feedback is very thin, so the score is tentative, and power and drinking water are unconfirmed.
Ten sites lie under mopane trees on the bank of the Kunene River, right by Ruacana Falls and about 16 km west of Ruacana town. The camp is run by the local community, and its guides lead walks to the falls and along the river, birding outings, early-morning visits to a Himba settlement and a cattle post, and tours of the hydro power station. The falls only flow when water is released, and are usually dry from June to December. It is a good first night on the way into Kaokoland and Epupa; a once-off booking fee applies.
