About
This is the plain, community-run alternative at Epupa: a grove of old makalani palms a few metres from where the Kunene breaks over the rocks of the falls, right next door to Epupa Falls Lodge. Camping here is simple, with braai stands under the palms and one shared ablution block, and the sound of the water carries through the night. From camp you can walk out along the rocks to the falls at first light, climb the hill downstream for sunset over the gorge, or arrange a visit to nearby Himba homesteads. Epupa is about 199 km north of Opuwo on the C43 gravel road via Okongwati, with fuel at Okongwati and small shops in the village. Come self-sufficient and expect no frills.
